More international applications than ever before!

Another period of applications came to an end on March 1st. About 250 students from 30 different countries from all over the world - an increase of more than 15% of the applicants from last year - applied for admission to the RWTH Aachen University Master Programmes in Mechanical Engineering. The largest groups this year consisted of Indian, Iranian and Chinese applicants. The next largest numbers of applicants were Latin-Americans from such countries as Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela, as well as a substantial group of European applicants from countries including Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy and Spain.
Due to the enormously competitive nature of our Programmes, we look forward to welcoming those most highly qualified candidates to Aachen this fall.

RWTH Soccer Cup 2010

01/2010

After very cold Christmas Holidays the courses have started again and the lecture halls are abuzz with news: the date for the annual RWTH University indoor soccer tournament is set on March 27 of 2010. Last year the Master students had great success with the team “mI·a = ∑ FUN” which means “Masters International Academy equals a sum of FUN” and won the prize for best outfit! We are looking forward to the championship 2010 and the prizes our team will win this time!

RWTH Academy Christmas Party

In late December the RWTH International Academy Christmas Party brought students, graduates and Academy staff together to enjoy German Christmas traditions. While listening to Christmas songs and drinking German “Glühwein” the atmosphere was perfect to welcome Santa Clause who rewarded the hard working students with little presents. Another highlight was the tombola. Students could not only win a lot of practical things, but also a red bicycle as a first prize. We enjoyed a great night with lots of fun and are happy to look back on a successful and exciting study year 2009 with our Master students!

Welcome Day 2009

On 30 of September we had the great pleasure to welcome our newly arrived students at the Welcome day that took place in the guest house of RWTH Aachen University.
Rector Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ernst M. Schmachtenberg opened the event with a salutatory by reminding of the targets of the students arrival, the qualifications they will attain by participating to our master programs. Afterwards the attending students could follow the presentations of two companies, the FEV Motorentechnik GmbH, a global engineering services leader, and the KHS AG, a producer of package and ampoule filling systems. Both enterprises are potential employers for the students just as well as possible internship partners where students may perform their mini or master thesis.
Recreation from these inspiring presentations was attained by serving canapés and delicious Lasagne. These breaks were also most welcome opportunities for the students to get in touch with the course managers and the staff of the International Academy.
Highlight of the event and of great interest for the students was the speech of Toufik Khawli (M.Sc.) who did graduate at RWTH International Academy in 2009 and who presently does his PhD studies at the Fraunhofer Institut, the institute of Laser Technology at RWTH Aachen. He did share experiences he made during his studies with the newly arrived students and provided them some useful practical information about life and study in Aachen.
It was with great honor that we could award scholarships for summer semester 2009 to the most excellent students of the 3rd and 4th semesters. In this bright atmosphere the event was concluded with a sparkling glass of champagne.
