The Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of the Aachen University of Technology (RWTH), founded in 1906, is one of Europe's largest and most productive university institutes of its kind.
|
The institute carries out both basic and applied research projects directly addressing the needs of industry, finding practical solutions for a more modern and efficient production.
The goal of covering the whole field of production engineering in a single institute has led to a wide spectrum of activities focused on development and design, quality management, machine tools and automation, organization, process planning, production and assembly. |

Research at the WZL is characterized by close interdisciplinary co-operation and a balanced mix of basic research and applications-related development.
Most research work is done in the form of joint projects with industry ensuring that results quickly find their way into practice.
As a university institute, the WZL sees its main

task in the training of highly-qualified engineers in production engineering. Insights from research projects flow directly into teaching, ensuring that the contents of courses are always up to date. By integrating the four areas of Organization, Manufacturing technology, Production machines and resources and Quality management.
|
The structure of the WZL has been deliberately designed to cover all tasks encountered
in modern manufacturing industry, except for sales and marketing, within a framework of
competent project organization.
General Program Management
RWTH International Academy Ltd. (formerly: Aachen Global Academy) was founded in 2000 as a subsidiary, non-profit company of RWTH Aachen University in order to offer further education under private law. The faculties and scientific institutes of RWTH Aachen University account for the imparted contents whereas RWTH International Academy concentrates on the provision of services that will allow for a beneficial learning environment for the students as well as effective teaching. The role of RWTH International Academy is to co-ordinate scientific and educational input from the chairs and institutes of RWTH Aachen University. Participants will achieve an official academic Degree (Master of Science) of RWTH Aachen University.
